Explore the Distilleries
presenting their Whiskies:

Alchemy– creating gold out of raw materials– is being practiced here in the Northwest by master distillers. Meet these magicians and taste their treasure; liquid gold in the form of craft whiskey.

Explore the Restaurants:

When winter fields lie fallow and trees are bare, our master chefs turn to the waters for seasonal inspiration, and nothing warms the soul like a seafood soup, be it Cioppino, Bouilliabase, or Bisque. But it won’t be soup alone they present, there will be other treats to tempt the palate.

We’re still drooling over some of last year’s favorite dishes. The pig face fritter with collard green slaw from Le Petit Cochon was to die for. Alderbrook’s New England style corn chowder of Alaskan weathervane scallop and smoked shoulder bacon was divine. And the crispy duck confit and Woodinville rye mostarda from Copperleaf was mouthwatering.

WHISKEY + CHOWDER

Learn a little – Whiskey 101

Whiskey is a complex marriage of wood, grain, and age. For those who want to learn more and educate their palate, we offer these 20 minute seminars:

An Overview of Scotch:

6:30PM  – TICKET $15

Single-malt Scotch is among the priciest of spirits available, but why are they so highly prized, and how do we recognize the nuances among the labels in this category? Whiskey connoiseur Nathan Barker walks us through the differences between Highland, Lowland, and Islay single malts, tasting rare samples in each category.

Art of the Cocktail:

The Rise of Rye:

7:30PM – TICKET $15

Rye whiskey is deeply rooted in America’s history, but only in recent years has it become the affection of whiskey lovers everywhere. Whiskey ambassador Derek Wieting will show you why rye matters & how this spicy whiskey compares to bourbon with a sensory experience, tasting the grains alongside the whiskeys.

Blind Taste Tests

Taste the whiskies head to head in a blind taste test and see which is your favorite. The results will be tallied at the end of the night.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

With admission, attendees are given $40 worth of tokens to spend on tasting samples from the distillers and chefs. This was plenty for most people at the 2016 Chowder Fest, but more tokens can be purchased for $2 each. Beer from Red Hook and wines from Desert Wind will also be available for purchase with tokens. There will be a retail store on sight where you can purchase any of the whiskey’s sampled, and a pair of ‘Blind Flights’, one of bourbons and one for ryes, and we let attendees vote for their favorite.
Seminars will be held in a smaller enclosed room this year so that noise will not be an issue, and any whiskeys sampled in the seminars will be available at a discount from Esquin Wine and Spirits.
